With a pass for the lead with five laps to go, Jason Elliott would grab the lead and not look back on the way to scoring his first feature victory of the season in the Triple Sick Skins Thunder Cars at Barrie Speedway on Saturday night.
Elliott kicked off the night by winning the first heat with a last lap pass on Bryan Penny. Penny finished second, followed by Luke Gignac, Jim Belesky, Shawn Goggins, Johnny Morrison and Jim Morrison.
Desi Walt won the second heat ahead of Robbie Sikes, Adam Misener, Ryan Semple, Jordan Latimer, Jay Cutting and Edward Cole.
The third heat featured a thrilling side-by-side battle for the lead between Gignac and Belesky with a quick caution for debris at lap eight. Last week’s feature winner Luke Gignac got the win ahead of Belesky, Penny, Elliott, Goggins, Johnny Morrison and Pete Marquardt.
15-year-old Jordan Latimer scored his first career heat victory in the final heat ahead of Walt, Misener, Semple, Cutting, Sikes and Cole.
Come feature time, Jim Morrison would start pole ahead of Desi Walt, Ryan Semple, Jordan Latimer, Adam Misener, Robbie Sikes, Bryan Penny, Shawn Goggins, Jason Elliott, Jim Belesky, Luke Gignac, Jay Cutting, Edward Cole, Johnny Morrison and Pete Marquardt.
Desi Walt would grab the lead on lap two behind the wheel of her No 21 Huckleberry Motorsports, G. McKinnon Haulage and ezeesigns@hotmail.com ride as Jim Morrison and Misener battled for second. Morrison would hold the down the position, with Semple getting alongside Misener at lap six. Semple then grabbed the spot on lap seven, with Latimer following suit before the caution at lap eight for Shawn Goggins running into problems in turn two. Penny would restart near the rear, so possibly deemed involved. With 22 laps to go, Walt led Morrison, Semple, Latimer, Misener, Elliott, Johnny Morrison and Belesky.
Walt would hold down the lead on the restart ahead of Semple as Jim Morrison and Misener ran side-by-side for third. Misener would get the spot on lap 10 ahead of Jim Morrison and Johnny Morrison. Elliott would get alongside Latimer for sixth at lap 11, completing the pass on lap 12 and then passing Johnny Morrison to crack the top five on lap 12. Elliott would get by Jim Morrison to move into fourth shortly thereafter. Behind him, Jim Morrison and Johnny Morrison would get alongside for fifth. In turn three, the pair would come together as Jim came down a little on Johnny, resulting in a multi-car pile-up that include Latimer, Cutting, Sikes and Belesky. Both Morrisons would be the only ones to continue while the rest of the drivers would be done for the event due to damage. With 12 laps to go, Walt led Semple, Misener, Elliott, Gignac, Penny, Jim Morrison, Cole, Goggins and Johnny Morrison.
Walt and Semple would battle for the lead on the restart, with Walt grabbing the advantage. Elliott then got alongside Semple for second, passing him on lap 16. Elliott then ran down Walt, getting to her inside at lap 17, completing the pass to take the lead in his No. 22 Simcoe Auto Recyclers, The Great Canadian Wiring Company Abe and Kens Auto, Hwy 400 Transmission, Advanced Fire Prevention, Kempenfelt Windows Ltd, Toms Car Radio, Woodward Service Centre, 705 Graphix, RAS auto and Power Bank Canada ride. Penny would move into third on lap 21, with Gignac getting fourth from Semple the following lap.
At the front, it was all Jason Elliott as he grabbed the win ahead of Desi Walt, Bryan Penny, Luke Gignac, Ryan Semple, Adam Misener, Shawn Goggins, Jim Morrison, Edward Cole and Johnny Morrison.
