As announced pre-season, John Wes Townley is running both the full ARCA Racing Series schedule for Venturini Motorsports and the full NASCAR Camping World Truck Series schedule for Wauters Motorsports. With an ARCA race scheduled for Friday at Michigan, Townley will miss Friday’s NCWT practice for the Saturday truck race at Gateway.
As a result, Nelson Piquet Jr. will practice the No. 5 Zaxby’s Toyota on Friday while Townley runs the ARCA race. Townley will then fly to Gateway to qualify and run the Driving for Linemen 200 on Saturday.
Piquet Jr. has previous truck series experience with a pair of wins in 54 starts. The Brazilian ran the full Nationwide Series schedule last year, finishing 12th in points with five top-10s. Piquet has yet to make any starts so far this season.
Currently, Townley sits fourth in the ARCA standings with three top-fives in seven races, while sitting eighth in truck series points with two top-fives in six races.
