New day, same face at the front of the field as Kyle Busch won the pole for today’s Ollie’s Bargain Outlet 250 at Michigan International Speedway. Busch set a new track record with his lap of 37.259 seconds.
For Busch, it marks his third pole of the 2014 season as he goes for his fourth win of the year later this afternoon. In 10 starts this year, Busch has finished in the top-five in each of them. It also marks Busch’s first pole at Michigan as he has one win and five top-fives in six Nationwide Series starts.
Rookie Chase Elliott would qualify second as he searches for his third win of the season while sitting third in points, 22 behind teammate Regan Smith. He would be followed by fellow rookie Ty Dillon in third as Dillon is looking for his first top-five finish of the year. Kyle Larson and Paul Menard rounded out the top five.
Brian Scott qualified sixth, followed by Dylan Kwasniewski, Regan Smith, Joey Logano, Chris Buescher, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Elliott Sadler.
There was a red flag during the session when Jeffrey Earnhardt made heavy contact with the wall. He would be okay.
Tommy Joe Martin, Matt Dibenedetto and Morgan Shepherd would fail to qualify for the 40-car field.
