After taking a week off to allow OSCAAR to put on a thrilling show for the fans, the stars of Barrie Speedway are back in action this weekend on the tight oval.
Wahta Springs Late Models
In the first Late Model feature two weeks ago, Dwight Brown carefully worked his way through the field to pick up the win with a late race pass on Andre Pepin. In 10 features this year, Brown has a pair of wins and seven top-five finishes. Look for Brown to be on the podium once again this weekend.
In the second Late Model feature, it was Rick Walt taking the win in dominating fashion as he started tail on the field and carved his way through to take the lead at halfway, not looking back the rest of the way. The win marked Walt’s third victory in the last four events. The middle event – the first feature on June 7th – Walt failed to finish due to heavy contact with the wall after Gord Shepherd got into him on the restart. The dominating win for Walt marked a testament to the strength of the Walt team. Now back and ready to go this weekend, expect Walt to be looking for another trip to victory lane with his brother Jeff calling the shots.
Two weeks ago, Andre Pepin had an impressive night as he finished second in both features. Pepin visited victory lane last year, though has yet to accomplish the feat this year. Could it happen this weekend? No doubt as Pepin has appeared to find the set-up that is needed to win.
Triple Sick Skin Thunder Cars
After a solid battle with Desi Walt, it was Jason Elliott that picked up the win two weeks ago. Elliott will be looking to return to victory lane once again and if he does so, no surprise as Elliott has three podium finishes in four starts this year.
Luke Gignac has been fast this year since moving behind the wheel of Darryl St. Onge’s old ride. The Extraordinaire leads the point standings and has three wins on the season to date. After scoring his worst finish of the season two weeks ago – a fourth – expect Gignac to be looking to get back to victory lane.
Unfortunately, the feature two weeks ago featured a multi-car wreck that took many drivers out of contention, including Robbie Sikes, Jim Belesky and Jordan Latimer. Each of these drivers will certainly be looking for better results this weekend in the form of a good finish.
St. Onge Recreation Pure Stocks
Dean Curry would pick up the victory two weeks ago, marking his second victory on the season. While the strength of the division seems to focus on the likes of Doug Butler and Mike Gettliffe, Curry is a driver that you can’t count out as he is always fast.
Speaking of Gettliffe, he was leading that feature two weeks ago when he had a flat tire that handed him an eighth place finish. No doubt the defending series champion will be looking to get back to victory lane this weekend.
Coming off of her best career finish of fourth, Randi Sequin will be looking to get another solid top-five finish as she continues to get stronger with each race behind the wheel.
Be sure to not miss the action this week as it should be thrilling and exciting in each of the three divisions. Racing starts at 6:30 p.m. EST and details can be found at http://www.barriespeedway.com.
