NASCAR Nationwide Series rookie Chase Elliott wouldn’t get a full lap in during practice on Friday at Road America as the motor would blow on his No. 9 NAPA Auto Parts Chevrolet.
“Well, practice wasn’t all that eventful since we had to make a motor change,” Elliott commented. “We’ll make our first laps tomorrow morning during qualifying and try and rebound from a disappointing practice day. My NAPA AUTO PARTS team is working hard at the moment getting everything ready for tomorrow.”
This weekend’s race marks Elliott’s first Nationwide Series road course start. However, the Georgia native has proven in the past to be good on road courses as he won the inaugural Silverado 200 at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park in the Camping World Truck Series last year.
Elliott currently sits third in the Nationwide Series points standings with two wins, six top-fives and 10 top 10s in 13 races this season.
Sam Hornish Jr. led practice for the 5th Annual Gardner Denver 200 Fired Up by Johnsonville ahead of Brian Scott, Alex Tagliani, Regan Smith and Brendan Gaughan.
