On Saturday morning at Road America, it’d be Alex Tagliani winning the pole for the Gardner Denver 200 fired up by Johnsonville with a lap of 134.411 seconds. It marks the second career pole for the driver of the No. 22 Discount Tire Ford.
Team Penske hired Tagliani to run the car in trying to gain the maximum points possible towards the owner’s championship as they battle head-to-head with the No. 54 for Joe Gibbs Racing. Team Penske has been successful at Road America before as A.J. Allmendinger drove the No. 22 to victory lane last year.
Despite being known as an open-wheel racer, Tagliani could keep the streak going as he has been strong in previous Nationwide Series starts and has won a couple NASCAR Canadian Tire Series road course events.
Rookie Dylan Kwasniewski was second quickest for his ninth top-10 start of the 2014 season. Kwasniewski has road course experience from running the K&N Pro Series. Regan Smith was third, followed by Sam Hornish Jr. and Brendan Gaughan.
Brian Scott was sixth, followed by Ty Dillon, Justin Marks, Chris Buescher and Andy Lally. Elliott Sadler was 11th with Chase Elliott in 12th. Elliott did not get any practice laps in as he blew a motor at the beginning of the session.
