A caution with 12 laps to go couldn’t stop Kyle Busch in route to victory lane as Busch dominated the UNOH 225 at Kentucky Speedway en route to victory. It marks Busch’s fifth victory this season in five NCWTS starts this season so far.
“We lost the race here in the last run last year, but this truck was so strong,” Busch commented. “Nice to see Bubba (Darrell Wallace Jr.) do well and get KBM a 1-2 finish for me and Samantha.”
It also marks the 10th consecutive victory for Toyota dating back to Erik Jones’ at Phoenix International Speedway last year and the ninth win for Kyle Busch Motorsports in the last 10 races, including their sixth in a row.
Darrell Wallace Jr. finished second to give KBM a 1-2 finish and Wallace his fourth top 10 of the 2014 season.
“He knew what he was doing,” Wallace Jr. said of Busch on the last restart. “He’s so cool to work with. He’s hard to beat, but I wouldn’t want to be with anyone else. I just try to keep making the most of it.”
Ryan Blaney finished third for his second top-10 in three Kentucky starts, followed by Timothy Peters and Brad Keselowski. Keselowski looked as if he could challenge Busch for the win, however a wrench left in the back of Ford under a pit stop with approximately 80 laps to go had the Sprint Cup Champion fighting his way back through the field the rest of the night.
“Their program has been good all year,” Blaney spoke of KBM. “We’re close but we still need a bit more speed.”
Matt Crafton finished sixth, followed by Austin Dillon, Ron Hornaday, Johnny Sauter and Ben Kennedy. Sauter now leads Crafton by eight points.
The race had six cautions, each for single-car incidents as a couple drivers went for around, while Caleb Holman stalled to bring out the final caution of the race.
Notably, the No. 51 Dollar General of Kyle Busch’s was found to be too low in post-race technical inspection so expect penalties to be forth coming on Tuesday.
