After a couple weeks off and some drivers attending other events, the Sauble Falls Tent and Trailer Park Late Models, Super Stocks and Graham Landscape Mini Stocks return to Sunset Speedway this weekend ready to put on a show. With the excitement of the last show still buzzing, there is lots of pressure to live up to that and beyond.
Sauble Falls Tent and Trailer Park Late Models
In their last feature three weeks ago, it was a thrilling finish with Chris Morrow and Dwayne Baker side-by-side at the finish line for the win with Morrow scoring the win by a bumper. For Morrow, it marked his third victory of the season as he continues to work at closing the gap between himself and points leader Jason Witty. If Morrow doesn’t have mechanical issues (May 31st), he’s in the top-two at the end of the feature so keep an eye on the No. 11 this weekend. In the same regard, also keep an eye on Baker as he is looking to get to victory lane. While most took the three weeks as a break, Baker ran the OSCAAR Super Late Model Don Biederman Memorial this past weekend, winning Saturday night’s feature and finishing third in Sunday night’s feature. Baker has proven this year that he’s a threat to win anytime that he is on the Innisfil mile oval.
Nick Goetz also took part in some winning, scoring the victory in the Chase for the Colors event at Peterborough Speedway to win pole for the Autumn Colors Classic in October. It marked Goetz’s first feature victory, though was no surprise to anybody after he battled for the lead tooth and nail with Tom Walters earlier this year. Now Goetz will looking to hit up Sunset Speedway victory lane and could do it with the fact that more laps = more comfort.
Scott Beatty and Tom Walters are both always fast at Sunset Speedway – though both only have a pair of top 10 finishes this year as bad luck has plagued their seasons to date. Both drivers will be looking to turn their season on a good note with a victory on Saturday night.
Super Stocks
Three weeks ago, everything seemed to blow up out of proportion with wrecks and fights taking over the property. Battling for the win coming to the checkered, Cayden Lapcevich would make contact with the wall, heavily damaging his car; whether due to contact from Randy Rusnell, that is debatable as some say there was and other say there wasn’t. Either way, Randy Rusnell would go on to grab the victory. Rusnell now has two victories on the year as he looks for his third straight championship. Given the domination that he has shown the past two seasons, it’d surprise nobody if he picked up another win this weekend.
In the same breath, though, Lapcevich also has two wins on the season and won Sunday’s modified feature after a great end of race battle with Davey Terry. Lapcevich will certainly look to get back to victory lane after the frustration that his team endured with the incident three weeks ago.
While the pair do battle, another driver to watch in the midst of the title battle is 2011 Champion Lane Zardo, who has a victory on the season. There’s no doubt that Zardo is hoping for a return trip to victory lane to back-up the May feat.
Graham Landscape Mini Stocks
Andy Kamrath has been fast this year – period. He proved that three weeks ago in picking up his second victory of the season at Sunset Speedway. If Kamrath is in attendance this weekend, keep an eye on the No. 35 as he will be carving his way through traffic to try and get the win.
Brandon McFerran has been solid this year so far and as a result, currently holds down the points lead. With two victories on the season, McFerran should be one to watch this weekend as he could quite possibly put his mustang in victory lane once again.
Rookie Jordan Howse has put together three straight top-five finishes as he continues to get more comfortable with his mustang. It’s only a matter time till he gets his first career victory and it could very well happen this weekend.
