In the first round of the Sauble-Sunset Home-to-Home Series at Sauble Speedway, it’d be Sauble Speedway sweeping the top four spots with Todd Davenport picking up the victory.
Randy Rusnell would win the first heat ahead of Davenport, Jason Legge, Steve Cashmore, Tyler Liscum, Johnny Morrison, Adam Martin, Coltin Everingham and Nick Tooley.
Dan Archibald won the second heat ahead of Chad Eden, Steve Ecker, Cayden Lapcevich, Lane Zardo, Vaughn Lawrence, Paul Geniole Jr. and Jake Zevenbergen.
Ken Grubb won the final heat ahead of Ron Lawrence, Joe Adams, Paul Howse, Stan Coe, Zack Casemore, Mike Weeda and Kent Cruickshank.
With over 24 cars in attendance, the officials would take the top six from each heat straight to the main event, as well as the top-six from the b-main to make up the 24-car feature.
The b-main wouldn’t go smooth at all as Everingham would get into Cruickshank, causing Cruickshank to get into Tooley. Tooley would then ride the wall before going for the spin and the caution flying. Cruickshank, Tooley and Everingham would join up at the back of the field for the restart. On the restart, more contact happened resulting in Everingham going around this time while Tooley’s body panels started flopping in the breeze. Everingham rejoined the back of the field while Tooley pulled off and got the front panels pulled off, before rejoining the field.
Paul Geniole Jr. would win the b-main ahead of Martin, Weeda, Matt Johnston, Zevenbergen and Cruickshank to qualify for the feature. Everingham and Tooley would fail to qualify for the feature. Interestingly, though, the decision was made to start 25 cars, which means Everingham was able to start the feature.
Come feature time, Ron Lawrence would get the early advantage ahead of Jason Legge, Chad Eden, Todd Davenport and Dan Archibald. Eden would get alongside Legge for second, completing the pass a lap later as he brought Davenport with him. Archibald continued to run fifth ahead of Grubb, Rusnell, Adams, Ecker, Cashmore, Lapcevich and Zardo. The top eight continued to run single-file as Ecker and Lapcevich got side-by-side for ninth at lap 10, though Lapcevich wasn’t able to complete the pass. Further up the field, Grubb would get alongside Archibald for fifth, completing the pass on lap 13, bringing Rusnell through with him a couple laps later.
While the battles continued mid-pack, Davenport would work his way by Eden to move into second. He would then track down Lawrence, passing him to take the lead. While Davenport was having the night he wanted, Zardo wouldn’t get as lucky as a flat tire at lap 19 as a result of contact while battling for eighth/ninth would send him pit side and done for the feature event.
With seven laps to go, Davenport continued to hold serve ahead of Legge, Lawrence, Grubb and Rusnell as Archibald and Adams battled for sixth. Archibald would hold off Adams, with Adams actually losing the seventh spot in the process to Ecker.
Todd Davenport would take the checkered flag ahead of Jason Legge, Ron Lawrence, Ken Grubb, Randy Rusnell, Dan Archibald and Steve Ecker. Joe Adams finished eighth after holding off a late charge from Cayden Lapcevich. Steve Cashmore rounded out the top 10 ahead of Chris Howse, Vaughn Lawrence, Paul Geniole Jr., Zack Casemore and Johnny Morrison. Stan Coe was the first car a lap down in 16th ahead of Mike Weeda, Adam Martin and Kent Cruickshank.
