As the countdown to the weekend slowly ticks by so do the days till the fifth straight year for the Honda Indy Toronto at Exhibition Place. Growing to be one of the prestigious street course events on the Verizon IndyCar Series schedule, the drivers will try and tackle the streets and tight corners that make up a thrilling 11-turn temporary street course on the same grounds as the Canadian National Exhibition.
Honda Indy Toronto officials kicked off the festivities on Wednesday evening with a special gathering at William-Ashley in downtown Toronto to showcase the trophies that the winners will recieve. On hand was Honda Indy Toronto President Charlie Johnstone (pictured), who spoke about the great partnerships that they have to put on the show that they do for the fans.
“While we think it’s about us, to the fans, it’s really about the drivers,” Johnstone said. “IndyCar has some of the best world drivers in the world.”
Johnstone spoke to people at the event about the pride in having the event in Toronto and how successful it has been in the past.
This year’s event should be exception to the rule as there are plenty of things to do on and off the track. Perhaps the biggest highlight is the return of “Free Friday” in which fans can come check out the full day of practice without a ticket, just being asked politely to make a donation to Make A Wish. The Honda Dealers Association sponsors the day in hopes of bringing fans out for the rest of the weekend.
On track, the action promises to be hot all weekend with a double-header for the Verizon IndyCar Series, along with Robby Gordon’s Formula Off-Road presented by Traxxas series, Indy Lights and the Pirelli World Challenge Series. Each division bringing forth a unique form of entertainment for the motorsports enthusiast.
Off track, there are many vendors set-up around the grounds to sample different beverages, as well as a variety of food and beer to purchase.
No doubt the highlight of the summer for Torontoians, this event promises to be one of the best events that anybody will ever attend. So without furtherado, do make sure that you come out this weekend if you’re in the area.
