Third Time’s a Charm at IMS: Just as Saturday’s Lilly Diabetes 250 will mark the third annual Nationwide Series event at the historic Indianapolis Motor Speedway, it also marks Eric McClure’s third start at the2.5-mile oval. Since racing at IMS, the Virginia driver has completed 97.5% of the total laps attempted and has an average finish of 27.5. He finished the inaugural event in 2012 in the 24th position, but was plagued with over-heating issues last year that relegated him to a 31st-place finish.
Chassis No. 677: Crew chief Wes Ward has selected chassis No. 677 for this weekend’s event at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This chassis was raced four weeks ago at Kentucky Speedway where the team posted a 24th-place finish.
Fun Factoid: Did you know that McClure loves football, especially the University of Virginia Cavaliers? Since most collegiate football games are held on Saturday when he’s racing, the Virginia driver isn’t able to attend many games. When it’s feasible, however, you will find him either at the stadium in Charlottesville, Virginia or in the team hauler watching the game prior to the start of the race. With only 40 days until kickoff, McClure is excited he is able to attend the team’s second game of the season onSeptember 6 and he will be taking his second oldest daughter, Maryleigh, to join in the festivities.
