He won on July 5th. He won on July 26th. He won on July 27th. In other words, he swept the month of July at Sunset Speedway. Heading into August, McFerran is continuing his dominance after claiming victory on Saturday August 2nd in the Mini Stock feature for his fourth straight victory. It also marks his seventh victory of the 2014 season.
The night would start off with a first time winner in victory lane, as Terry Woodley picked up his first career victory ahead of Kendra Adams, Gerritt Tiemersma, Billy Schwartzenburg, Jerry Noble, Brian Love, Chris Free and Candiss Everingham. Notably, Schwartzenburg had a big moment on the frontstretch during this heat that saw his No. 86 Spira Racing Mustang pointed at the inside retaining wall.
Steven Belanger would win heat two ahead of Paul Givens, Nic Montanari, Stefan Woyslaw, Chandler Bois, Eric Rainey, Bob Phinnemore and Dave Middel.
Samantha Shaw had a good run going in the final heat, when she’d go for the spin in turn two; Jordan Howse would be put to the back as an involved car. McFerran picked up the win ahead of Miles Tyson, Ken Townsend, Howse, Shaw, Jake Watson, Nick Brown, Trevor Hemingway and Lauren Halliday.
Halliday was hoping for a better run in the b-main, however that wouldn’t go as planned as she’d go around on lap one, with Everingham also going for a spin. Shaw would lead the way with the win ahead of Watson, Noble, Rainey, Brown, Love, Bois, Hemmingway, Phinnemore and Everingham.
McFerran would go for the daily double in winning the Dash for Cash ahead of Howse, Schwartzenburg, Adams, Woodley, Tyson, Tiemersma, Belanger, Townsend, Givens and Woyslaw.
Come feature time, Belanger would get the pole ahead of Givens, Shaw, Love, Brown, Tiemersma, Howse, Watson, Rainey, Schwartzenburg, Tyson, Montanari, Woodley, Adams, Woyslaw, McFerran, Noble, Phinnemore and others as a full field took the track to do battle.
While Steven Belanger led the opening lap in his No. 9 Tire Depot, Rumball Haulage and Excavation and Partimer Signs ride, he wouldn’t stay there as Samantha Shaw would grab the lead on lap two behind the wheel of her No. 81 Lucas Oil Products and Spira Fire Protection Mustang. She would stretch the lead out in front of the field as the quick cars began making their way up through the field. Though, she’d be brought back to the whole field when the caution flew at lap 14 for Phil Givens going for the spin. With 11 laps to go, Shaw led Howse, McFerran, Schwartzenburg, Tiemersma, Tyson, Woodley, Belanger, Brown, Watson, Love, Montanari, Adams, Noble, Townsend, Hemingway, Rainey, Woyslaw, Givens, Bois, Free, Everingham, Phinnemore, Middel and the 52.
The caution would breed another caution as Townsend went for the spin on the frontstretch a lap later. Though before the caution flew, Jordan Howse put his No. 72 Glenn Windrem Trucking, Finish Line Painting & Restoration, Paul Howse & Associates, Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, Bray Auto Fierce Wraps, Howse Automotive Mustang out front so he’d restart the leader.
Howse was able to get the jump to get infront of Shaw on the restart as McFerran slipped his way into second before the third caution at lap 21 for Love and Adams coming together. With four laps to go, Howse led McFerran, Shaw, Schwartzenburg, Tiemersma, Tyson, Woodley, Brown, Belanger, Watson, Townsend, Rainey, Montanari, Woyslaw, Hemingway and Adams.
The restart brought forth another caution as Everingham would give Bois a tap, sending him for a spin.
The second attempt went smoother as Brandon McFerran was able to slip by Howse and put the No. 64 Peter D. Laird Transport, Road Ranger, East End Car Wash, Creative Edge Graphics, Finish Line Painting & Restoration, DS McClure Farms and AMD Electric Mustang in victory lane, once again. Jordan Howse would finish second for his best career finish, followed by Samantha Shaw with her first Sunset Speedway podium. Billy Schwartzenburg and Gerritt Tiemersma rounded out the top five. Miles Tyson finished sixth, followed by Terry Woodley, Steven Belanger, Jake Watson, Stefan Woyslaw, Kendra Adams, Jerry Noble, Eric Rainey, Trevor Hemingway, Brian Love and Phil Givens.
