Dunk the Driver! Ragan to Climb into Dunk Tank for Charity
STATESVILLE, AUGUST 12, 2014 – David Ragan, driver of the No. 34 CSX “Play It Safe” Ford, comments on racing at Michigan International Speedway:
“We have our friends from CSX back on board our No. 34 Ford at Michigan. So, we’ll be reminding everyone to ‘Play It Safe’ around railroad tracks, and you’ll see the speech bubble on the hood again that says ‘I Brake for Trains.’ It’s an important message and we’ve gotten good response to it from folks around the country. It’s something that sticks with them and they remember it, and that’s the whole idea.
“Michigan is a super fast track, but you don’t really feel it in the car. When you’re wide open on the throttle halfway through the corner, you’re thinking, ‘This isn’t right, we have way too much grip.’ But you don’t really feel that 200-mile-an-hour speed, not like at Texas or Atlanta. Michigan is so smooth and so big that 200 miles an hour doesn’t feel as fast as you’d think.
“We’re doing something a little different on Friday night. I’m going to be in a dunk tank at the track, letting fans try to dunk me for charity. I’m not sure what I’ve gotten myself into, but it’s usually pretty warm in Michigan in August, so maybe the more direct hits the better. But it will all be for a good cause, raising money for MIS Cares Foundation and Shriners Hospitals for Children. So, come on by and give it your best shot.”
JUST THE FACTS: Ragan has 15 Sprint Cup career starts at Michigan International Speedway … He has one top-five and two top-10 finishes at the two-mile oval … His best finish at the track is third (2008) … CSX returns as primary sponsor of the No. 34 Ford … Ragan will participate in a celebrity dunk tank Friday at 7 p.m. at the speedway’s Budweiser Party Porch to benefit MIS Cares Foundation and Shriners Hospitals for Children.
