Furniture Row Racing announced today that Martin Truex Jr. will miss Friday’s practice and qualifying sessions at Michigan International Speedway due to being with longtime girlfriend Sherry Pollex as she begins treatment for ovarian cancer.
Per the statement released by the team, “Sherry and Martin would like to thank the NASCAR community for all the well wishes. They have requested that everyone respect the family’s privacy as Sherry begins her treatment and recovery”.
While being by Truex’s side on a weekly basis, Pollex runs her own store in Charlotte called “Lavender Boutique” and works at raising money for children fighting pediatric cancer by spearheading efforts behind the Martin Truex Jr. Foundation. A lot of people are familiar with the cat walk for charity that Pollex puts on during Charlotte All-Star week.
“Everyone at Furniture Row Racing extends their thoughts and prayers to Sherry during her treatment and recovery period,” Joe Garone, Furniture Row Racing General Manager, said. “She is a devoted supporter of our race team and we can’t wait for her return to the track.”
FRR added that 2013 Camping World Truck Series Champion Matt Crafton will sub for Truex on Friday. Truex will be at Michigan on Saturday for practice, and will be behind the wheel of the No. 78 Chevrolet for Sunday’s race.
