During the third round of knock-out qualifying, Ryan Blaney was the only truck to take the surface and as a result, he would score the 21 Means 21 Pole Award for the 15th Annual Careers for Veterans 200 Presented by The Cooper Standard Foundation & Brad Keselowski’s Checkered Flag Foundation. Blaney posted a lap of 41.582 seconds, 173.152 mph for his third pole in his 43rd NASCAR Camping World Truck Series start. Blaney is the current points leader and led the first 10 laps of the race.
Joey Logano posted the second quickest time, matching his Sprint Cup Series qualifying effort, for his second top-10 start of 2014. Timothy Peters would qualify third for his ninth top-10 start in 12 races thus far this year. Darrell Wallace Jr. and Johnny Sauter rounded out the top-five.
Travis Kvapil, who qualified sixth, challenged for the lead early in the race, however saw his engine expire at lap eight.
“No warning. It definitely broke, and it was pretty major under there as there were holes in the oil pan,” he commented. “Just thankful for the opportunity. I had a good truck. The drafting was definitely going to play a factor out there and we were able to make some good moves there. Just disappointed, but glad to be back behind the wheel of a fast truck and have the opportunity.”
Blaney led the first series of laps, before Wallace Jr. would grab the advantage after the restart at lap 15. As of the time of posting of this article, Wallace Jr. continues to lead. The race can be viewed on FOX Sports 1.
