McClure Ready to Race at Hometown Track: After taking a one-week hiatus, Eric McClure returns to Nationwide Series competition at his hometown track, Bristol Motor Speedway, on Fridaynight. This race will be his 16th event at the “World’s Fastest Half-Mile” and his best finish of 21st came during the spring event in 2013. Earlier this year, the team struggled with the car’s handling at BMS and, as a result, they posted a 27th-place finish.
McClure’s thoughts on Bristol: “Bristol brings to mind a lot of fond memories of my childhood, as well as the opportunity to have more time at home with my daughters. However, BMS has not typically been one of my favorite tracks, at least in the sense of competition. Hopefully, we can have a good run this weekend.”
No. 14 Hefty®/Reynolds Wrap® Camry: Crew Chief Wes Ward has selected chassis No. 7 forFriday night’s Food City 300. This chassis was raced three weeks ago at Iowa Speedway. The team posted a 23rd-place finish.
Fun Fact: One of McClure’s favorite childhood memories of BMS is missing ½ day of school on theFriday before the race (twice a year) to watch his father’s car (No. 4 Chevrolet for Morgan-McClure Motorsports) in Sprint Cup Series qualifying with his maternal grandfather on the grassy hill that used to occupy Turn 2.
Additional Notes:
- Friday’s Food City 300 will mark McClure’s 246th-career Nationwide Series start.
- In 2002 McClure competed in the Goody’s Dash Series event at BMS.
- McClure will make two appearances leading up to Friday night’s Food City 300. The first is for the Diamond Ring Club (oldest season ticket holders) at BMS on Wednesday, August 20 at 3:45PM. The second is at Food City Race Night on State Street in Bristol, Virginia/Tennessee onThursday, August 21 from 6:00pm – 7:00pm.
