Driving the No. 5 Jimmy Johns Freaky Fast Chevrolet Camaro in the Jimmy Johns Freaky Fast 300 at Chicagoland Speedway, Kevin Harvick scores his fourth win of the season in the Nationwide Series and his third win at Chicago. The race was slowed six times for 35 laps.
Harvick led 43 of 200 laps en route to victory at the 1.5 mile speedway. Harvick took the checkered 2.108 seconds ahead of Kyle Larson, who ended the day in second in his No. 42 Colgate Chevrolet.
Harvick has spread the love around this season as each of his four wins came with a different sponsor on the JR Motorsports owned car. Hunt Brothers Pizza, Tide, and Bad Boy Buggies have also visited victory lane with Harvick this year.
Harvick is on the midst of one of his best career seasons. His four win this season have came in only 13 starts. He has also scored 13 top-tens, an impressive record by any standard.
Harvick has been solid on the Sprint Cup side as well, scoring two wins, making the Chase, and leading an impressive 1186 laps.
Kyle Busch continued his dominating performance in the Nationwide Series, leading 141 laps in his No. 54 Monster Energy Toyota. He didn’t have enough for Harvick and Larson at the end. Harvick took two tires on the final pit stop, while Busch took four.
Team Penske driver, Ryan Blaney, and Roush-Fenway driver, Trevor Bayne, rounded out the top five.
Points leader, Chase Elliott, finished tenth and led only two laps. His teammate, Regan Smith, who is second to Elliott in the standings, took the checkered in seventh, and now sits 18 points out of the lead.
The series now travels to Kentucky Speedway for the Visit Myrtle Beach 300 on Saturday, September 20.
