BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — October 16, 2014 — Fremont Speedway in Ohio is a third-mile bullring that is dubbed “The track that action built.” Combine that with the best sprint car drivers in the world, who compete with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series, and the always tough Ohio contingent, and a thrilling racing event is on tap for the series this weekend at the northern Ohio oval. Kraig Kinser has raced at Fremont a few times in his career, including twice with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series and will visit the track for the second consecutive year as the 2014 season winds down.
The World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series event at Fremont Speedway is set for Saturday, October 18. A full racing program is in store, with a 40-lap, $10,000-to-win feature capping the evening.
“Fremont always has a strong field of cars and this weekend shouldn’t be any different,” said Kinser. “We face a lot of tough locals throughout the year and the drivers from Fremont and Attica are right up there with the rest. Qualifying well and putting yourself in a good position for the heat race is the first objective at Fremont, followed by trying to get into the dash. Having a 40-lap feature a lot can happen, as we saw there last year, so keeping your nose clean for the end of the race is very, very important.”
The third-generation driver finished 15th in the 40-lap A-Feature at Fremont Speedway last year in the Mesilla Valley Transportation/Casey’s General Store/King Racing Products Maxim. Kinser began the night as the 19th-fastest driver in time trials of the 46 entries at the semi-banked track. He finished second in the fourth heat race, which earned him a spot in the dash. Kinser started 10th and came home seventh in the dash and started on the inside of the fourth row for the main event.
Kinser raced for the first time Fremont Speedway in 2001, during Ohio Sprint Speed Week for the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions, turning the 10th fastest lap in time trials that night. He returned to Fremont in 2003 for another race with the All Stars, recording the 11th- fastest lap in qualifying with a very strong 52-car field in attendance.
Last weekend at Rolling Wheels Raceway in New York, Kinser finished 10th, in a race that was part of NAPA Auto Parts Super Dirt Week XXXLIII. The 2005 winner of the Knoxville Nationals was third-fastest in time trials of the 30 entrants and finished fifth in the third heat race to earn a spot in the dash by way of his qualifying time. In the dash, Kinser started fourth and finished third.
Kinser, who won earlier this season with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series at Clay County Fair Speedway in Iowa, is currently 10th in points with the series. He has 27 top-10 finishes, with seven of those being top-five showings entering this weekend. Only four point-paying events remain on the 2014 calendar.
“In one sense it’s kind of hard to believe that the season is just about over, but with more races this year, we have definitely been full-throttle since February,” Kinser said. “It was nice to get a few days in the shop this week and some time to relax as well. This is the time of the year when you begin getting things in order for next year, so having some extra time definitely helps.”
