Fresh off announcing that he will run the full NASCAR Camping World Truck Series schedule in 2015, Erik Jones would top the leaderboard in final practice for the Lucas Oil 150 at Phoenix International Speedway. Jones topped the charts with a lap of 26.764 seconds.
Earlier today it was announced by Kyle Busch Motorsports that Jones will run the full NASCAR Camping World Truck Series schedule in 2015 their team. Jones has ran a part-time Truck schedule the past two years for KBM, scoring three wins, a pole, six top-fives and 12 top-10s with an average finish of 8.7 across the 16 starts. Jones picked up his first career victory last year at Phoenix International Speedway at the age of 17 years, five months and nine days old in 2012, before winning both Iowa and Las Vegas this year. He’ll hope to repeat that success on Friday night.
Jeb Burton was second quickest, 0.072 seconds off of Jones’ quick time. Burton is looking to turn around his luck after going through a string of bad luck this year at ThorSport Racing. It’d be great for the second-generation driver if he could score his second career victory this weekend. Cole Custer, who scored his first career victory earlier this year, was third quickest. Ben Kennedy and Brennan Newberry rounded out the top-five.
Darrell Wallace Jr., who led the first practice, was sixth quickest, followed by Matt Crafton, Ryan Blaney, Austin Dillon and Ben Rhodes.
The trucks will qualify on Friday at 4:45 pm EST, with the Lucas Oil 150 scheduled for 8:30 pm EST. Live coverage of both can be seen on FOX Sports 1.
