After a solid OSCAAR Hanover Holiday Modified season, 14-year-old Dustin Jackson is set to make his 5 Flag Speedway debut as he will be running the Friday night Modified feature as part of Snowball Derby weekend.
“I’m looking forward to the whole event and also I am very excited for the experience,” he commented. “I hope everything goes well for myself and our team.”
For the teenager, it will mark his first race outside of Canada as he looks to further his racing career in coming up through the ranks. For that reason, Jackson recognizes that they will be challenges for himself and the team at 5 Flags.
“I have never ran on this tire or this big of a motor so even that part is going to be challenging getting used to that,” he expressed. “I don’t really have any expectations other than just go there and get the feel for the car and just run my race.”
Jackson heads to Florida with a good season under his belt after competing in the OSCAAR Hanover Holiday Modified tour, racing across the province at Ontario at a variety of tracks. Jackson had a solid year that featured a couple heat qualifier victories, a third place finish in the Rick Woolner Memorial at Sauble Speedway, and a career-high second place feature finish at Capital City Speedway en route to finishing sixth in points.
“We had a great year we had some ups and downs but met a lot of great and nice people,” he commented. “The series was ran very well and we had lots of fun and lots of memories from our oscaar season.”
When the driver of the No. 61 Wardlaw Heating & Cooling, Winchester Arms, Let The Fur Fly Pet Salon, Frankie’s Towing, Milne Transportation, Union Cab & Limousine and J&J Promotions Modified won his first career heat at Sunset Speedway in June, he became the youngest OSCAAR heat winner at the age of 13. Though setting records is nothing new for the Sault St. Marie, Ontario native as he entered the Guinness World Records in 2000 as “the youngest stock car racer” at the age of 10, while racing in the Stock Four Division at Laird International Raceway.
Jackson’s racing career was kick-started by his parents at the age of seven.
“My mom and dad got me into it when I was seven, racing go karts and I’ve been going to the race tracks since I was in diapers (literally),” he commented. “In 2010 was when I got my stock car start in a four cylinder.”
Since then, Jackson has been running the fast line, picking up checkered flags and solid finishes across the entire province in whatever vehicle he has driven in his career to date. Now with success and with the support of his parents, crew and sponsors, Jackson heads to Florida, hoping to take his show on the road.
