The National Motorsports Press Association announced on Tuesday, December 2nd that they will reveal the winner of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Sprint Most Popular Driver Award during the Cup Series banquet on Friday night at the Wynn Las Vegas.
Traditionally, the award has been presented during the Myers Brothers Awards Luncheon a day before the awards banquet the past seasons. However, with Sprint becoming a sponsor of the award, it was moved to the Friday night banquet.
Originally determined by a vote of drivers, the award has been presented each year since 1953. It is the only award given post-season that is decided on a fan vote. Dale Earnhardt Jr. has won the award the past 11 seasons, with Bill Elliott holding the record for the most awards at 16.
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series banquet is set to take place at 9 p.m. EST on Friday, December 5th with coverage shown on FOX Sports 1.
