At the 2014 Myers Brother Luncheon on Thursday, December 4th at the Wynn Las Vegas, Dale Earnhardt Jr.was named the recipient of the 2014 NMPA Myers Brothers Award.
“This doesn’t even seem real,” Earnhardt Jr. said. “The truth is obviously I’m extremely humbled by this award, but I feel like I share it on so many levels – my sister Kelley (Earnhardt Miller) along with everyone at JR Motorsports is as deserving of this as anyone. I have a lot of passions with NASCAR, but I wouldn’t be able to know how to make them realities without all those folks.”
The prestigious award is given out each year to an individual to recognize their contributions to the sport of stock car racing. The winner is chosen by a vote of the National Motorsports Press Association. The award has been presented annually since 1958 in the names of pioneer NASCAR competitors Billy and Bobby Myes.
Beyond winning 23 Sprint Cup Series races and a pair of Nationwide Series Championships, Earnhardt Jr. runs a team in the Nationwide Series to give others a chance, and gives back to the community.
JR Motorsports won their first championship this past season with Chase Elliott, who became the youngest national series champion at the age of 18 year old. JR Motorsports also has developed Brad Keselowski, Aric Almirola, Danica Patrick and Cole Whitt under their banner. JR Motorsports’ involvement in racing continues to the late model level, with Josh Berry and William Bryon finishing first and second in points at Hickory Motor Speedway.
Off the track ,Earnhardt has made 235 appearances on behalf of the Make-A-Wish Foundation and raised $913,000 to be distributed to more than 70 different charities through the Dale Jr. Foundation
“I’m just as proud of what we’ve accomplished there as anything we’ve ever done on the race track,” Earnhardt said about his foundation.
