Mike Affarano announced today that his team is looking to increase their current stable of vehicles to run in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, beginning with the season opener in February at Daytona International Speedway. The team, Mike Affarano Motorsports, ran some races in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series over the course of 2014.
MAM added that they are in closed door discussions with 2010 Snowball Derby winner Johanna Long. The Florida native has made over 66 starts in the NASCAR Truck and Nationwide Series over the course of her career to date.
“Johanna will bring with her a wealth of experience, skill and raw talent that our race shop and team needs to expand our business on and off of the track,”” Affarano said. “She also provides an excellent example of what the NASCAR racing community needs and supports… perseverance and determination to excel in the face of diversity which I think fans, and sponsors alike, can and should latch onto.”
The team will hope to find sponsorship through attending the 27th Annual PRI Trade Show this weekend at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis.
“My desire is to secure sponsorship for Johanna and I to run the full season of NASCAR’s Camping World Truck and Xfinity Series that would be ideal for us,” he stated. “But, I’d be willing to running a limited season or take a backseat and just be an owner if that means that Johanna can run a full season and be competitive against the other contenders on the field.”
