Remember the guy that climbed the fence during the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Federated Auto Parts 400 at Richmond International Speedway in September? Welp, he is headed to jail now.
Henrico General District Judge Thomas Jones sentenced James Dennis to 12 months in jail with 11 months suspended for disorderly conduct, and fined him $100 for being drunk in public. The 53-year-old originally acknowledged that he was celebrating his birthday and wanted to be famous, so climbed the fence.
RIR President Dennis Bickmeier is pleased with the court’s decision and says that it shows that actions of this nature will not be tolerated, due to affecting the safe environment they want to create for both drivers and the public.
“We want people to feel like coming to the races is something that is a safe thing to do,” he said.
