According to the latest report by Motorsport.com, Donnie Wingo will be crew chiefing for David Gilliland at Front Row Motorsports for the upcoming season.
“I’m looking forward to working with David,” Wingo told the website. “I think he has a lot of talent. It’s a little different opportunity than what I’ve had lately, but I’m looking forward to the challenge. I’m looking forward to working with David. I think he has a lot of talent. He’s been great at restrictor plate track and road courses, two areas where I’ve had success in the past.
“We need to work on the intermediate package a bit, but I’m looking forward to help building the program.”
Wingo spent the last couple of seasons working with the Wood Brothers, crew chiefing for Trevor Bayne, winning the Daytona 500 in 2011. Wingo was replaced at the Wood Brothers this season by Jeremy Bullins, who is set to work with Ryan Blaney for a limited schedule as Bayne goes full-time with Roush-Fenway Racing.
Wingo, at the age of 54, has worked for a series of different team owners over his career, including Bud Moore, Travis Carter, Chip Ganassi and Jack Roush. In 25 seasons, he has led his drivers to seven wins, 63 top fives and 172 top 10- finishes.
Gilliland finished 30th in points last year, working recently with Jay Guy. He worked with Frank Kerr for the majority of the season, before Kerr was released in October.
