Following a top-10 points finishing season in 2014, Bryan Silas is set to go for 2015 with a lot of confidence on his side heading into Daytona.
“With how last season ended, definitely got a lot of confidence entering Daytona – but its Daytona and whatever happens, it’s almost like a free for all for who is going to win the race,” he told OnPitRoad.com. “So we’ll go there, hopefully get a good top-10/15, and get ready for Atlanta.”
The driver of the No. 99 Chevrolet Silverado adds that he is looking for getting more top-10s this year, trying to beat last year’s total of two.
“If we can beat that and cut our DNFs from last year, that’d definitely be a good feeling for us,” he said.
Unfortunately, Silas suffered five DNFs with three as a result of crashes, and two as a result of engines. One of those tracks that he suffered an unfortunate crash was at Martinsville, a track that he is looking forward to getting to in 2015 to do better. He also is looking forward to returning to Canadian Tire Motorsports Park after a 19th place finish last year.
“I really enjoy the road courses,” he commented.
He would go on to say later in the interview that he believes there should be more dirt races and road courses.
“I raced ARCA a couple years ago and they had a very diverse schedule,” he continued. “If we can get somewhat to what their schedule is, it’d definitely be a positive. It brings out the true champion because you have to go through mile and halves, short tracks to restrictor plates to road courses and dirt tracks. It shows the true champion because of the diverse schedule.”
Outside of the DNFs, Silas had a really solid season en route to finishing 10th in points, in which the Florida native is “very happy” about.
“Going into last year, our goal was top 20 in points to be happy,” he said. “But honestly, I thought our goal was top 15/20 in points, especially with our funding compared to the other teams. It was definitely a very good season, but we always got room for improvement.”
In looking to get better, he feels that they want to improve their average finish of 19.2 versus last year by finishing top-15 on a weekly basis in hopes to finish a couple spots higher in points. However, the 27-year-0ld expects the competition to be tougher this year as last year was a learning curve for the teams a bit due to the new bodies”.
