Following a solid season, Timothy Peters is excited for the upcoming NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season with Red Horse Racing.
“With the way that we finished 2014, I’m very optimistic,” he told OnPitRoad.com.
Finishing runner-up in 2012 and fifth last year in the season ending points standings, the goal for this year is to crack the door open and win the championship for the first time in his career. Peters noted that given the success they had near the end of 2014, it’s “a reachable goal”. To be the champion, he says they need to be consistent as he feels that’s been the key for Matt Crafton going back-to-back.
“He’s had minimal mistakes, and that’s one thing that we’re determined to do – is minimize mistakes,” Peters said.
During the final six races of the season, he was consistent as he had only one finish outside of the top four, with that run to the end of the year highlighted by a win at Talladega Superspeedway.
“Just really glad to get back to victory lane at a place like Talladega,” he commented. “Hopefully we can go back to victory lane on a stage as big as that platform. All victories are very special, but when you go to a place as big as Talladega and go to victory lane, it holds a pretty sentimental feeling inside of you so you hope to regain that some place else.”
Getting special wins is something that Peters has been known to do in his career, noted by his first career victory at Martinsville in 2009, a track that Peters is excited to get to this year for the simple reason it’s home.
Though before Martinsville, Daytona lies as the challenge ahead and that’s a place that would certainly mark a special win. In trying to find victory lane, he could find himself working with new teammate Ben Kennedy in the draft. Peters says he is looking forward to working with Kennedy.
“He’s really switched on about racing, knows his vehicle from front to back,” he commented. “It’s a good combination for success on him being a teammate, and us racing together on the track. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”
