As part of the Knockout qualifying system, the cars would back out of their stalls to go out on the track. Though in NASCAR’s ever-changing work to improve the system, they have eliminated that as cars will begin pulling forward out of their stalls beginning this weekend at Auto Club Speedway.
“We did that initially working with everybody that, you guys and the TV partners in terms of access to the drivers,” O’Donnell told SiriusXM NASCAR. “As we’ve gone through it, we’ve learned some different things so we won’t have the cars back in. We’ll send a memo out to the teams this week where we tweak it.”
The rule change was made to reduce the chances of car colliding together, and making it easier for drivers to pull out.
