Last season at Sauble Speedway, Jason Parker had all the pieces together as he won five features en route to scoring the 2014 Limited Late Model Championship. He would also be crowned the Sauble/Sunset Home-to-Home Champion after posting podium finishes in both events.
“It was a great,” he commented. “I’ve got a hard working team that came out with a brand new McColl car and worked great from the start. I think that’s the key to a good year – you need to perform every night.”
On top of his success at his home track, he would travel to Sunset Speedway, scoring a victory in one of the summer 75-lap invitational features after a great late race duo with Brandon Watson. He would then back it up with a win in Sunset’s year-end Velocity 250 presented by McColl Racing Enterprises.
“That’s a big race for anybody and we’ve had some good cars there, but some bad luck,” Parker commented. “This year, we had great equipment, great team and some luck. It all came together for once.”
Parker added that to be able to go into Sunset and take home a victory from the regulars, it’s big because “there’s a lot of tough guys to beat there”.
For 2015, he will be mixing his deal up as he is set to tackle the brand new APC United Late Models of Ontario Tour in search of more success.
“I was looking for something different in my career, something like this,” he commented. “An eight race series is perfect for me because I have a family and business that keeps me busy. A couple of weeks off in-between races are ideal for me. I like the bigger events. It turns into a big weekend when you show up for the races, and by the time you get through tech and practice, you know it’s going to be a good show. The competition level – you have all the top guys from all of Ontario in the series.”
Looking at the five tracks on the schedule, Parker feels that his chances are high for success.
“We have a race at Sauble – that’s my home track,” he commented. “Sunset – we finally got something figured out there. We used to do well at Flamboro when we raced there, and Peterborough – we do alright there. So between all the tracks that we are running, I think we have a shot at any one of them. Delaware is going to be a tough one for me. We haven’t run there really well, so let’s hope we can figure out something there as well.”
Parker also feels that the competition is going to be huge, with it being “a heck of a battle” to just qualify for the 26 car field.
“I think it’s great with the amount of cars as that’s what people are looking for,” he added. “I think we have a lot of great competitors in the series, but any one of them can miss the show any given night, and that’s putting something big back in racing. We haven’t had a full field at any track in a while and if only 26 cars are getting in, somebody is going home sad.”
