After fainting during an autograph session at Martinsville Speedway on Saturday afternoon, Kyle Larson was taken to Martinsville Memorial Hospital for evaluation. The team reported that he was “awake and alert on the way to the hospital”.
Chip Ganassi Racing released a statement a while later stating that everything checked out well for Larson at Martinsville Memorial Hospital, however they felt he should be seen by a neurologist, just to be on the safe side. There was no neurologist on hand at MMH, so Larson made the trip to Carolina’s Memorial Hospital in Charlotte to be evaluated by one. He arrived late this evening, feels fine and was awaiting the final evaluation.
NASCAR officials have stated that they’re in communication with the team and noted that he would have to be cleared by a physician to race on Sunday.
The 2014 Rookie of the Year is scheduled to start seventh in the STP 500, and currently sits 18th in points.
