Per the Dallas Morning News, Texas Motor Speedway is joining the list of tracks adding tire packs ahead of their events this season.
Following a review of the speedway, it was recommended that they add 244 linear feet of tire packs in five locations. This includes 33 feet in Turn one, 29 feet in turn four. TMS President Eddie Gossage told DMN that it’s only a short-term answer, as he will be adding a SAFER barrier during the off-season.
“Why would you not?’’ TMS President Eddie Gossage said Tuesday. “From purely a business standpoint, the worst thing in the world would be to lose one of the assets you’re selling the public … because you maybe could have done something safer. Plus, we’re all friends, colleagues in this.”
Texas follows suit with Martinsville Speedway, Talladega Superspeedway, Phoenix International Raceway and Auto Club Speedway in announcing safety additions to their speedway. A lot of focus has been put on safety and SAFER Barriers following a crash in February at Daytona International Speedway in the NASCAR XFINITY Series race that saw Kyle Busch break his leg.
