The only thing that needs to be known following the Drive to Stop Diabetes 300 – Joey Logano. After starting in the runner-up spot, Logano led all 300 laps en route to scoring the victory at Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday afternoon.
“I’ve never led every single lap in a race before,” he said. “What a fast Discount Tire Ford. That’s amazing. You’re waiting for something to go wrong – where am I going to blow this thing? These are the type of days that you’re really worried about. What a day! Try to do this again tomorrow.”
Logano was challenged, though, as Erik Jones and Kevin Harvick both had a chance to pass him through the race. However, Logano managed to hold them all off.
Daniel Saurez would work his way up through the field, finishing second as he continues his learning experience in the XFINITY Series. Chris Buescher would finish third to tie Ty Dillon for the XFINITY Series points lead. Jones and Dillon rounded out the top-five.
Chase Elliott fought back from early race radio issues to finish sixth, with teammate Kevin Harvick finishing seventh following a pit road speeding penalty. Brian Scott finished eighth, followed by Brendan Gaughan and Elliott Sadler.
Regan Smith’s championship hopes took a hit as he spent time behind the wall getting a rear-end gear changed out. He wasn’t the only one experiencing the problem, though, as Denny Hamlin’s chances at victory dashed away in the same fashion. Austin Dillon showed speed early to challenge Logano for the win, but finished 16th following an unscheduled green flag pit stop for a flat tire.
