Following an internal review conducted by the International Speedway Corporation with NASCAR, Kansas Speedway will be making some safety upgrades.
The track is installing two sand barrels at the leading edge of the pit-road exit, an additional tire pack at pit-road entrance, and interior walls along turn two and three will be extended before the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and Sprint Cup Series events next month.
There are more safety enhancements planned to made post-May before the series returns in October.
“The safety of our guests and the competitors is, and always has been, our No. 1 priority,” Kansas Speedway president Pat Warren said in a statement. “Ongoing facility evaluations will continue and we will provide updates as circumstances warrant.”
Many of the tracks have announced safety upgrades since Kyle Busch’s accident at Daytona in February during the XFINITY race that resulted in Busch sustaining a broken leg after hitting a wall that was not protected.
