During the ToyotaCare 250, a fire erupted on pit road as the No. 62 Richard Childress Racing team attempted to refuel Brendan Guaghan’s Camaro. According to crew chief Shane Wilson, the fire erupted as a result of some fuel spilling due to a malfunction with the fueling can.
Three crew members were injured as a result – Gaughan’s rear tire changer Anthony O’Brien, Gaughan’s fueler Josh Wittman, and Clifford Turner off of Eric McClure’s team. All three crew members were taken to the infield medical center, before being transported to a local hospital.
McClure’s team reported later in the evening that Turner had been treated and released. The crew members for Gaughan’s team will stay overnight for observation.
