After coming up short last weekend, Andy Kamrath would return to Sunset Speedway victory lane as he won the Graham Landscape Mini Stock feature on Saturday night.
The night started off with a bang as Charlie Smith broke a brake line, sliding up while three-wide with Samantha Shaw and Warren Paxton. The result would be Smith taking Shaw up to the wall, but both drivers managed to avoid contact with the turn two barrier. Warren Paxton grabbed the win ahead of Doug Butler, Samantha Shaw, Eric Yorke, Billy Melenhorst, Ben Melenhorst, Miles Tyson, Justin Holmes and Ryan Toon.
The second heat went smoothly with Danny Benedict snatching the win ahead of Jordan Howse, Brandon McFerran, Andy Kamrath, Terry Woodley, Gerrit Tiemersma, JP Rosevaar and Jake Watson.
The b-main would see problems for Toon as he’d pull off before race’s end. Miles Tyson picked up the win ahead of Holmes, Watson and Rosevaar.
Danny Benedict would win the fast qualifer’s dash ahead of Kamrath, McFerran, Butler, Howse, Paxton, Yorke, Shaw, Ben Melenhorst, Woodley and Tiemersma.
Come feature time, it’d be Danny Benedict starting on pole in his No. 54 Dent Dynamics, Wallace Auto Supply – Carquest, Mayhew Graphics, Mark Rainford Auto Sales, Camsport Truck Caps & Accessories, B & W Enterprises, Kim Irwin of Irwin Tax, Baudo Auto Services, Hoy’s Garage, Mayhew Auto and Clarke Motorsports Communications Mustang ahead of Jordan Howse, Warren Paxton, Andy Kamrath, Billy Melenhorst, JP Rosevaar, Eric Yorke, Jake Watson, Terry Woodley, Gerrit Tiemersma, Miles Tyson, Ben Melenhorst, Samantha Shaw, Brandon McFerran, Doug Butler and Charlie Smith.
The opening laps would bring a battle for the lead between Benedict and Howse, with Howse putting the No. 72 Stewart’s Equipment, Kubota, Glenn Windrem Trucking, Paul Howse and Associates, Central Industrial Supply, Foodland of Hillsburgh, Progressive Waste, Howse Automotive, John Teune Engines and Georgia Beck Brooms Mustang out front on lap two while Benedict battled Kamrath for second. The pair would battle side-by-side up until the first caution at lap five for Billy Melenhorst and Yorke tangling in turn two. With 20 laps to go, Howse led Kamrath, Benedict, Paxton, Rosevaar, Woodley, Watson, Tyson, Shaw, Ben Melenhorst, McFerran, Butler, Tiemersma, Yorke and Billy Melenhorst.
The restart advantage would go to Kamrath as he’d put the No. 35 London Recreational, Jason Witty Re/Max, Seaton Structures, Super Clean, Castrol Edge, Blue Mountain Honda, Brandon’s Landscapes, Georgina Auto Glass, J.K. Kitching and Sons, AM Roofing, and Spencer Lewis Promotions Honda Civic in the lead ahead of Howse, Paxton and Benedict as Woodley and Tyson battled for fifth. The pair would battle back and forth with Tyson grabbing the spot on lap 10, bringing Butler through with him. Woodley would fall back to seventh ahead of Ben Melenhorst, Yorke and McFerran. McFerran would then pass Yorke for ninth on lap 12, while Butler got alongside Tyson for fifth. However, the caution would then fly for Jake Watson going around.
Kamrath would get another good restart, while Paxton and Howse battled for second. Howse would hold off Paxton to keep the spot as Benedict rounded out the top-four. Butler and Tyson resumed their battle for fifth, with Butler getting the spot on lap 19. He wouldn’t have it quietly for long, though, as McFerran pulled alongside, looking for the spot. McFerran would clear butler to break into the top-five with three laps to go.
At the front of the field, though, it was all Andy Kamrath as he took home the victory after finishing fourth last weekend. Jordan Howse would finish second for his first top-five of the season, followed by Warren Paxton, Danny Benedict and Brandon McFerran. Doug Butler finished sixth, followed by Miles Tyson, Terry Woodley, Samantha Shaw, Jake Watson, Billy Melenhorst, Ben Melenhorst, Gerrit Tiemersma, Eric Yorke and Charlie Smith.
