In the only practice for the Sprint Showdown, Austin Dillon would top the speed chart with a lap of 28.528 seconds. Dillon is looking to become one of two drivers that transfer from the event to the Sprint All-Star race.
The Sprint Showdown will consist of two segments at 20 laps a piece. Each of the segment winners will transfer to the All-Star race. Following the Showdown, NASCAR will announce the Sprint Fan Vote winner, in which that driver will be added to the All-Star race as well.
Greg Biffle was second quickest as he looks to get the season turned around at Roush Fenway Racing, followed by Martin Truex Jr. Truex is coming off of a strong run last weekend. Paul Menard and Danica Patrick would round out the top-five, followed by David Ragan, Clint Bowyer, Kyle Larson, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Chase Elliott. Elliott is doing double duty this weekend, running the Showdown and the NASCAR XFINITY event at Iowa Speedway.
