Defending Series Champion Mack DeMan would try every trick in his book, but he wasn’t able to get by as Ryan Fraser was able to hold him off to score the victory in the Hoosier Spring Velocity Can-Am Midget feature on Saturday night at Sunset Speedway.
Lucas Smith won the first heat ahead of DeMan, Todd Cresswell, Darren McLennan, James Marche, Adrian Stahle, Steve Murdock and Jerrid Morphy.
Fraser won the second heat ahead of Rob Neely, Brandon Zavarella, Tyler Turnball, the No. 64, James Marche and Craig Pitchell.
When it came feature time, Todd Cresswell would grab the early lead ahead of Ryan Fraser, Mack DeMan and Tom Kyle. Tyler Turnball would catch Kyle for the fourth spot, with contact happening between the pair as they battled for position; they would both keep the cars going, though. In the aftermath, though, Rob Neely would jump up to the fourth spot ahead of Turnball, Darren McLennan, Brandon Zavarella, the 64, the 65 and James Marche. The caution would come out shortly after as the 65 went around in turn four.
Cresswell would get a good restart to keep the lead ahead of Fraser and DeMan, though had to go through another restart as Steve Murdock and Craig Pitchell tangled in turn four.
The second restart didn’t go smoothly as Cresswell would not get going, with everyone taking evasive action left and right to avoid contact. Fraser would come out as the leader ahead of DeMan, Turnball, Neely, McLennan, Zavarella, the 65 and Lucas Smith.
DeMan would be able to chase down Fraser and close the gap between the pair, and tried ducking high and low for the lead. However, it wasn’t enough as Ryan Fraser scored the victory. Mack DeMan finished second, followed by Tyler Turnball, Rob Neely, Darren McLennan, Brandon Zavarella, Lucas Smith, the 65, the 64, Marche, Adrian Stahle, Steve Murdock and Craig Pitchell.
The Can-Am TQ Midgets will be back in action next weekend for the second event of the season as they travel to Flamboro Speedway.
