Last season, Taylor Holdaway figured out the magic set-up for the long distance races. He won the Canadian Limited Late Model Champion 75, as well as Sunset Speedway’s final night extended distance points feature. That trend continued as Holdaway dominated the Hoosier Spring Velocity Sauble Falls Tent and Trailer Park Limited Late Model feature at Sunset Speedway.
He started off the night by winning the first heat ahead of teammate Scott Wylie, Paul Maltese, Chris Morrow, Travis Hallyburton and Marvin Freiburger.
The second heat saw contact between Dario Capirchio and Nick Goetz, with Goetz going around on lap seven. Billy Zardo won the heat ahead of Tom Walters, Thayne Hallyburton, Goetz, Capirchio and Ray Manary.
Taylor Holdaway went for the daily double with a win in the third heat ahead of Travis Hallyburton, Morrow, Dwayne Baker, Freiburger, Wylie and Maltese. Baker missed the first round of heats due to having to change the motor as he blew up in practice.
Billy Zardo also went for the daily double, winning the final heat, ahead of Goetz, Capirchio, Walters and Manary.
Come feature time, Billy Zardo would put the No. 46 Holmes on Holmes, National Exhaust, Big Chute Marina, Round One Transport, Hassell Automotive, Marvin Freiburger Trucking, Smart Screen, Shelby Roofing, Better Contracting and DJ’s Photos & Design Late Model in the lead ahead of Tom Walters as Taylor Holdaway and Nick Goetz battled for third. Their battle for third would catch Walters at lap three, resulting in a three-wide battle for second with Walters, Holdaway and Goetz. Holdaway came out with the advantage, taking the second spot on lap five ahead of Walters, Goetz, Travis Hallyburton and Chris Morrow.
Goetz would then make his move on Walters at lap nine, grabbing the third spot a lap later. Hallyburton looked to follow through, as well, but was unable to complete the pass. As a result, Walters kept the fourth spot ahead of Hallyburton and Morrow. Morrow would fall back a pair of spots, though, when he was passed by Scott Wylie and Dwayne Baker. Hallyburton would try another move on Walters for third, but once again was unable to complete the pass.
Meanwhile, at the front of the field, Holdaway would chase down Zardo for the lead, putting the No. 41 Holdaway Automotive, Imagefactor.ca Motorsports Design and Photography, Wix Filters, Castrol Canada, Kart Start presented by Toyota, Sunshine Super Wash, and Stefko Racing Engines Late Model out front on lap 20. Zardo would fall back to second ahead of Goetz and Walters as Wylie battled Hallyburton for fifth. Wylie would grab the spot, getting alongside Walters for fourth. Wylie would complete the pass at lap 24 for the spot. Walters would continue to fall back as he was also passed by Dwayne Baker for fifth. Hallyburton would get alongside Walters for sixth, trying his hand once again, and was able to complete the pass to take the spot on lap 35. At the same time, Wylie would catch Goetz for second and was able to make the pass.
The race looked to have a green flag feel to it based on how spread out the field was getting. However, it wouldn’t go flag-to-flag without a caution as the caution flew at lap 40 for Walters having a mechanical problem. With only six cars on the lead lap with 35 laps to go, Holdaway led Zardo, Wylie, Baker, Hallyburton, Goetz, Dario Capirchio, Morrow, Marvin Freiburger and Paul Maltese.
Holdaway would get a good restart to escape the field while Baker and Zardo battled for second. Baker was able to get the spot with Wylie getting by Zardo to move up to third. Travis Hallyburton ran fifth ahead of Goetz, as Goetz tried to make his way around the lap traffic due to making a pit stop for adjustments under caution. Capirchio ran seventh ahead of Morrow, Freiburger and Maltese. Wylie would look to continue his climb to the front, getting alongside Baker for second at lap 47. He would then complete the pass a couple laps later to make it 1-2 for Holdaway Motorsports. Zardo also looked to try and get past Baker for a spot, and continued to work him over during the final laps, completing the pass for third with four laps to go.
At the front of the field, it was all Taylor Holdaway as he’d lead the final laps and score the victory ahead of teammate Scott Wylie. Billy Zardo finished third, followed by Travis Hallyburton, Dwayne Baker and Nick Goetz. Dario Capirchio would finish seventh, one lap down. Chris Morrow would finish eighth, two laps down, followed by Marvin Freiburger and Paul Maltese.
