Entering a new season of late model competition in Ontario, Marvin Freiburger has a full plate on his hands. The veteran driver has set out plans to run Sauble Speedway’s Limited Late Model schedule, as well as the full APC Auto Parts United Late Models of Ontario Tour presented by Grisdales Racing Products with his Pro Late Model.
This past weekend at Sunset Speedway was the first race for the new APC Series, which garnered a lot of interest with 31 drivers attempting to qualify for the 26 car field.
“I think it’s awesome,” Freiburger said of the tour. “It’s what we need. Everybody is really interested in it. They’re doing a helluva good job and it’s what we all want.”
The weekend started off well as he was third quickest in the Friday evening practice session. He admitted they struggled in Saturday’s practice a little bit with being tight in the center but was confident in his chances for the feature. He got off to a good start in the 100 lap feature, solidly qualifying his way into the show through time trials. He also had a top-10 performance going, but unfortunately ended up making heavy contact with the outside turn one wall after something broke on Shawn McGlynn’s car entering the corner.

The team is hopeful that repairs can be made in advance of the next date on the schedule, which is Flamboro Speedway on June 6. However, it has yet to be determined as to how long the repairs will take and when Freiburger’s next APC race will be.
Speaking pre-race, he was excited about running the Beat the Heat 150 as part of the series at Sauble Speedway due to running there each week.
“Hopefully it’s going to make us shine and we’ll get ‘er done,” he commented.
While the Pro Late Model deal is off to a rough start, the Limited Late Model program has started off much better with the first event of the season in the books at Sauble.
“It’s doing really good,” Freiburger commented. “We won the first heat, got a fourth in the second heat and a third in the feature. The car is good. It needs a little tuning on, but we’re in good shape.”
Freiburger is hoping to have success across the board with both cars, but whether things go good or bad, he’s the type of guy that you will always see with a smile on his face at the end of the day.
“I’m hoping to do pretty good at Sauble with the Limited Late Model,” he commented. “The APC car, we’ll do the best that we can. We’re running against some really good talented people, and a lot younger than I am. I’m just going to enjoy it and whatever it is, it is – it doesn’t matter to me.”
