Talladega, AL – After its sellout debut in the spring, “The Big One” Meatball will once again be available to race fans who want to try one of the most unique concession items in all of racing during the upcoming Alabama 500/fred’s 250 Powered by Coca-Cola race weekend at Talladega Superspeedway Oct. 23-25.
“The Big One” Meatball, like Talladega Superspeedway, is the biggest and most unique of its kind, weighing in at over a pound. It has a center of blended Mozzarella and Pepper Jack Cheeses mixed with smoked BBQ Pulled Pork and a little house BBQ sauce for an extra kick. It is then covered by a layer of Ground Beef, rolled in a panko bread crumb and parmesan mix before being deep fried to a golden brown. And, there’s more – it is then topped off with a dollop of BBQ sauce and a spaghetti garnish.
It’s the perfect delicacy for fans coming to see one of the most exciting sporting weekends this year, which will feature the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series drivers in the fred’s 250 Powered by Coca-Cola, an always pivotal event in determining the series champion, and the Alabama 500, which will play a key role in who will be crowned as the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series titlist. The Alabama 500 will be the third and final race of the Contender Round of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup in which 12 eligible drivers for the championship will be cut to eight at the race’s conclusion.
While the action on the track is second to none, fans racing to concession stands to get “The Big One” Meatball could be something to see. “The Big One” Meatball will be offered at both the Gadsden and O.V. Hill South grandstand concession stands.
The colossal meatball made such a splash in the food world when it debuted in the spring that it received national attention from some of the nation’s largest media outlets. The softball-sized meatball quickly made a name for itself with its over-the-top featured ingredients and mouthwatering taste. It is the creation of Americrown, the leader in motorsports catering and concessions. The company’s Executive Chef at Talladega, Leilani Contemprato, and Corporate Executive Chef Michael Pappas from Daytona were looking for something that caught the feel of Talladega, and they succeeded in, well, a big way.
“’The Big One’ Meatball proved to be a unique item to Talladega and the response was overwhelming,” said Talladega Superspeedway Chairman Grant Lynch. “There is nothing else in the world quite like Talladega and the same goes for this menu item that we’re proud to be bringing back. Fans that come to Talladega have an appetite for the greatest racing in the world. If they have a real appetite for a huge, one-of-a-kind meatball, we once again have that, too!”
The epic weekend kicks off on Friday, Oct. 23 with practice sessions for both the fred’s 250 Powered by Coca-Cola and the Alabama 500. Saturday’s slate includes qualifying for both events and the green flag for the fred’s 250 Powered by Coca-Cola. Sunday’s Alabama 500 is set for a 1:30 (CDT) start.
