After blowing the motor up last weekend at the 35-lap invitational, Andy Kamrath made his way back to victory lane, scoring the win in the Graham Landscape Mini Stock feature on Saturday night at Sunset Speedway.
Danny Benedict won the first heat ahead of Terry Woodley, Brandon McFerran, Doug Butler, Miles Tyson, Jake Watson, Steve Belanger and Richard Butler.
The second heat saw a quick caution as Jordan Howse would spin Kendra Adams. Andy Kamrath picked up the win ahead of KP Motorsports teammate Warren Paxton, followed by Eric Yorke, Howse, Gerrit Tiemersma, Justin Holmes, Adams and Bob Phinnemore.
The Fast Qualifier’s Dash would see Watson spin in turn two. Andy Kamrath went for the daily double ahead of Paxton, Yorke, Benedict, Howse, Butler, McFerran, Weeda, Tyson, Tiemersma, Holmes and Watson.
Come feature time, Kendra Adams would start the No. 2 SE Telecom, OnePromo.ca, EPIC Racewear, Paul Quail Transport, Speedy Auto Machine, The Mortgage Station, Mobil 1, Leading Edge Earthworks Incorporated, Radical Rods, Rides and Restoration – Barrie, Ontario, Wix Filters and Lynne Tipton Honda on pole ahead of Jake Watson, Gerrit Tiemersma, Bob Phinnemore, Andy Kamrath, Steve Belanger, Terry Woodley, Eric Yorke, Miles Tyson, Justin Holmes, Doug Butler, Warren Paxton, Jordan Howse, Danny Benedict, Brandon McFerran and Richard Butler.
The first attempt at starting the race went messy with an incident involving Phinnemore and Tiemersma.
The second attempt went cleaner with Jake Watson putting the No. 88 Spira Fire Protection, Race2way.ca, Hype Energy Drink, London Recreational Racing, GUNK, Wix Filters, The Landing Strip of Toronto, Academy Construction, TSS Top Shops, SMG Motorsports, OKTANE Productions, Fast Eddie Racewear, Glencoe Automotive, For Your Eyes Only, Protein2O, AquaHydrate, Stewarts Root Beer, AR Bodies, Falken Tire, Artik Ice, Dominion Sure Seal, Chetty’s Hot Sauce, Cloverleaf Farms, Lucas Oil and Expressway Ford Mustang out front into the lead on the opening lap.
It wouldn’t last, though, as Andy Kamrath would put his No. 35 London Recreational, Jason Witty Re/Max, Seaton Structures, Super Clean, Castrol Edge, Blue Mountain Honda, Brandon’s Landscapes, Georgina Auto Glass, J.K. Kitching and Sons, AM Roofing, and Spencer Lewis Promotions Honda Civic into the lead on lap two ahead of Watson as Woodley and Adams battled for third. Woodley would get the spot as the caution flew for a wreck behind them.
Butler, Howse and Holmes would go three-wide off of turn four, with Holmes getting into the outside wall. Benedict would then get his right-side tires up on Holmes’ car, with Tiemersma spinning in the mayhem. Holmes would be done for the night while Butler, Howse and Benedict would be sent to the back of the field as involved cars. Tiemersma would maintain his spot as he was considered involved after the initial yellow. With 21 laps to go, Kamrath led Watson, Woodley, Adams, Yorke, Tyson, Paxton, McFerran, Tiemersma and Belanger.
The first attempt at a restart saw the third caution as Tiemersma went around.
The second attempt would see Kamrath maintain the lead as Woodley got alongside Watson for second. Woodley would take the spot on lap six, with Yorke following him through. Yorke would then get alongside Woodley for second on lap seven, completing the pass on lap eight and bringing Paxton through with him.
Woodley now ran fourth while McFerran and Howse battled for fifth. Howse would get the fifth spot on lap 11 ahead of McFerran, with Butler passing Watson for seventh a lap later. Adams and Tyson would round out the top-10 for the time being. Howse would look to continue his climb, getting alongside Woodley for fourth at lap 13, and completing the pass a lap later. McFerran would then get by Woodley for fifth at lap 14, with Butler following him through for sixth. Woodley now ran seventh ahead of Watson and Adams.
At the front of the field, Kamrath would continue to lead as Paxton got alongside Yorke for second with eight laps to go. Paxton would then take the second spot with six laps to go put the KP Motorsports teammates 1-2. Yorke now ran third ahead of Howse as Butler got alongside McFerran for fifth. The pair would battle back and forth, with Butler taking the fifth spot with three laps to go.
Andy Kamrath would lead the rest of the way en route to scoring the victory ahead of Warren Paxton, Eric Yorke, Jordan Howse, Doug Butler, Brandon McFerran, Terry Woodley, Jake Watson, Kendra Adams, Danny Benedict, Miles Tyson, Steve Belanger, Gerritt Tiemersma, Bob Phinnemore and Richard Butler.
