Despite being involved in a wreck during his heat, rookie Treyten Lapcevich remained unfazed as he picked up his third career feature victory in the Signs of Innovation Mighty Mini feature at Sunset Speedway.
The first heat started off with Peter Wakeling spinning on lap two. Then on lap four, contact between Chris Allard and Lapcevich off of turn four would result in Lapcevich getting into the frontsretch outside wall with the nose of his car. Nick St. Onge was then unable to slow down in time, running into the rear of Lapcevich’s car. St. Onge would be done with heavy front end damage, while Lapcevich was able to continue; Allard would be blackflagged by track officials for rough driving.
Mike Robinson Jr. picked up the win ahead of Cameron McGlashan, Randi Seguin, Lapcevich, Stefan Woyslaw, Thomas Dunn, Dylan Holmes, Melissa Bullen and Wakeling.
The second heat would see Chandler Bos spin Robert Toope on lap three, followed by Billy McLeod spinning Josh Inglis on lap four. Brandon Passer picked up the win ahead of Rick Drinkwater, Joe Dunlop, Eric Rainey, Stefan Semeraro, Toope, Inglis, Doug Wilman, Bos, Adams and McLeod.
The Fast Qualifier’s Dash didn’t go as Passer hoped after his heat win, as contact from Drinkwater would result in Passer making heavy contact with the outside frontstretch turn four wall. Robert Toope would then be left with nowhere to go, making contact with Passer. Passer would be done for the night, while Drinkwater received the black flag for rough driving.
Mike Robinson Jr. went for the daily double ahead of McGlashan, Dunlop, Lapcevich, Rainey, Seguin, Semeraro, Woyslaw, Toope and Bullen.
The b-main would see Wilman spun by Bullen on the first lap, with Wakeling going around in turn four on the restart, collecting McLeod. Chris Allard picked up the win ahead of Holmes, Bos, Inglis, DeLeeuw, Adams, Wilman, Bullen, the 90 and Wakeling.
The feature didn’t start off cleanly with Inglis spinning Adams, collecting Holmes in the process. With the field set for a complete restart with the involved cars at the back of the field, Stefan Woyslaw led the field behind the wheel of the No. 94 YORKNATIONAL.COM, SWITCH EUROPEAN AUTO CLINIC, PART TIMER SIGNS Mustang ahead of Robert Toope, Stefan Semeraro, Rick Drinkwater, Treyten Lapcevich, Randi Seguin, Lisa DeLeeuw, Chandler Bos, Mike Robinson Jr., Chris Allard, Cameron McGlashan, Eric Rainey, Thomas Dunn, Doug Wilman, Melissa Bullen, the 90, Peter Wakeling, Billy McLeod, Wendy Adams and Josh Inglis.
Woyslaw would get a good restart to keep the lead ahead of Toope as Drinkwater and Lapcevich battled for second. The caution would then fly, though, as Bullen would pinch Inglis up into the frontstretch wall off of turn four.
The third attempt at starting the feature saw Woyslaw once again grab the early lead as Toope and Drinkwater battled for second ahead of Lapcevich and Seguin. The race wouldn’t stay clean long, though, with the caution flying on lap five for the 90 going around in turn three. With 15 laps to go, Woyslaw led Toope, Drinkwater, Lapcevich, Seguin, Allard, Semeraro, McGlashan, Robinson Jr., Rainey, Bos, Dunn, DeLeeuw and Wilman.
The restart brought forth the fourth caution as Semeraro would spin in turn four. As a result of four cautions in the first four laps, speedway officials made the decision to restart the field single-file rather than double-file.
Woyslaw would lead them off with Lapcevich getting alongside Toope for second. Lapcevich would get by Toope on the outside down the backstretch, quickly switching lanes to draw inside of Woyslaw for the lead going into turn three. Lapcevich would come off the corner with the lead, but the caution would fly after Toope got squeezed by Drinkwater and into the wall as they ran three-wide for third with Allard.
Lapcevich would seal the lead on the restart behind the wheel of the No. 32 Tim Hortons, Castrol, Cathcart Trucking, Springers Meats, EPIC Racewear and Troy Cove Marine entry ahead of Woyslaw and McGlashan. McGlashan would then get by Woyslaw for second on lap eight, before the sixth caution flew for Drinkwater and the 90 making contact in turn two.
Lapcevich would get another good restart to keep the lead ahead of McGlashan, Woyslaw, Seguin, Rainey, Bos, Robinson Jr. and Wilman as Semeraro and Allard battled for ninth. Allard would get the spot, getting alongside Wilman for eighth at lap 13 as Robinson Jr. got alongside Bos for sixth. Allard would get the eighth spot on lap 14, bringing Semeraro through for ninth at lap 15.
At the front of the field, Treyten Lapcevich would lead the rest of the way en route to scoring the victory ahead of Cameron McGlashan, Stefan Woyslaw, Randi Seguin, Eric Rainey, Mike Robinson Jr., Chandler Bos, Chris Allard, Stefan Semeraro, Doug Wilman, Lisa DeLeeuw, Eric Rainey, Billy McLeod and Wendy Adams.
