On Saturday night at Sunset Speedway, Jason Witty would hold off a late-race charge by Taylor Holdaway to pick up the victory in the NWAAS Sauble Falls Tent and Trailer Park Limited Late Model feature.
The night started off with time trials, with Holdaway laying down a lap of 14.758 seconds for quick-time behind the wheel of his No. 41 Holdaway Automotive, Imagefactor.ca Motorsports Design and Photography, Wix Filters, Castrol Canada, Kart Start presented by Toyota, Sunshine Super Wash, and Stefko Racing Engines Late Model.
Dwayne Baker qualified second (14.836), followed by Nick Goetz (14.878), Jason Witty (14.885) and Gord Shepherd (14.888). Thayne Hallyburton qualified sixth, followed by Travis Hallyburton, Chris Morrow, Scott Wylie, Cayden Lapcevich, Britney Gresel, Ian Bourque, Jordan Latimer, Frank Davey, Ernie Fumerton, Billy Zardo, Al Inglis, Paul Maltese, Mike Wilkinson, Marcus Keeler, Mike Brown and Rick Terry.
Come feature time, Holdaway and Baker would run side-by-side for the lead with Baker putting the No. 48 Zancor Custom Homes, G.D. Coates Used Car Superstore, McGunegill Engine Performance, Four Valley’s Excavating, Clearview Heating & Cooling, Baker Performance Parts and Nisco National Leasing Late Model out front on lap four. Witty would then get alongside Holdaway for second, taking the spot on lap six. Holdaway would run third ahead of Goetz, Thayne Hallyburton, Morrow and Lapcevich as Shepherd and Wylie battled for eighth.
The caution would then fly on lap 12 as Billy Zardo would break something entering turn three, laying down a large amount of fluid. Davey and Keeler would slide in the fluid, making contact, resulting in heavy front-end damage to Davey’s car. Both Zardo and Davey would be done for the feature. With 26 laps to go, Baker led Witty, Holdaway, Goetz, Thayne Hallyburton, Morrow, Lapcevich, Shepherd, Wylie, Travis Hallyburton and Gresel.
The restart would see a battle for the lead between Baker and Witty, with Witty putting the No. 19 R&W Equipment, Queensville Sod, Carrot Express, Matco Tools, Speedy Auto Machine and LaRues Haulage Late Model out front on lap 17, with Holdaway pulling alongside Baker for second. Holdaway would then grab the second spot on lap 22 ahead of Baker, with Goetz and Morrow rounding out the top-five.
Shepherd would run sixth ahead of Lapcevich, Travis Hallyburton and Wylie as Gresel battled Thayne Hallyburton for 10th. Gresel would get the 10th spot on lap 25 ahead of Thayne, Inglis, Fumerton, Latimer, Bourque, Wilkinson, Keeler, Maltese and Terry.
The rest of the feature would run green to the end with the leaders able to work their way through lap traffic without issue. Jason Witty would lead the rest of the way en route to scoring the victory ahead of Taylor Holdaway, Dwayne Baker and Nick Goetz. Gord Shepherd would get by Chris Morrow in the late stages for fifth, followed by Cayden Lapcevich, Scott Wylie, Travis Hallyburton, Brittney Gresel, Thayne Hallyburton, Al Inglis, Ernie Fumerton, Jordan Latimer, Ian Bourque, Marcus Keeler, Paul Maltese, Rick Terry and Mike Wilkinson.
