After waiting out a brief rain shower, the fans at Sunset Speedway would be treated to a stellar feature that Travis Hallyburton do everything that he could in the final laps to hold off Cayden Lapcevich to score the victory. It marks Hallyburton’s first career win at Sunset Speedway after winning at Peterborough Speedway earlier this year.
As a result of the first feature, Jordan Latimer would start on pole behind the wheel of his No. 90 KICX 106, 104.1 The Dock, Creechers Design, Kitchen Tire, Krueger Electrical Services, North River Motorsports, Tax Smart, T&C Construction & Welding, AC Electric, TSS Top Shops, HWY 400 Transmission, Shepherd Family Trucking, JRH Auto Body, EPIC Racewear, Get Jack @ RE/MAX and OnePromo.ca Late Model ahead of Ernie Fumerton, Al Inglis, Thayne Hallyburton, Brittney Gresel, Travis Hallyburton, Cayden Lapcevich, Chris Morrow, Gord Shepherd, Nick Goetz, Dwayne Baker, Taylor Holdaway, Jason Witty, Ian Bourque, Mike Wilkinson, Marcus Keeler, Rick Terry, Paul Maltese, Billy Zardo and Frank Davey.
Latimer would grab the early advantage as Fumerton and Thayne Hallyburton battled for second. Thayne would grab the spot on lap three, with Travis Hallyburton moving into third a lap later. Fumerton would now run fourth ahead of Wylie, with Wylie getting alongside on lap six. Wylie would then take the fourth spot on lap seven, bringing Lapcevich and Morrow through with him.
Further up the field, Travis Hallyburton would get alongside Thayne Hallyburton for second, taking the spot on lap eight. Travis would then catch Latimer for the lead, putting the No. 39 Hillsdale Service Center/H.S.C Powersports/Knightworks Designs Late Model into the lead on lap 11. Latimer would run second ahead of Thayne, as Lapcevich and Wylie battled for fourth. Wylie would get the spot on lap 15, with Morrow looking to follow him through. Wylie would then continue his charge, getting alongside Thayne for third at lap 17.
At the front of the field, Travis Hallyburton would continue to lead ahead of Latimer, Wylie and Morrow. Morrow would then get alongside Wylie for third at lap 23, but was unable to complete the pass. Instead, Lapcevich would get alongside Morrow for fourth, while Wylie got alongside Latimer for second as they were knee-deep in lap traffic.
The caution would then fly, though, as Rick Terry went around in turn two on lap 28. With seven laps to go, Travis Hallyburton led Wylie, Latimer, Morrow, Lapcevich, Shepherd, Goetz, Thayne Hallyburton, Holdaway, Witty, Gresel, St. Onge, Bourque and Davey.
The restart saw Travis Hallyburton check-out as Latimer, Lapcevich and Morrow went three-wide for second. There would be contact in the process, with a piece of debris coming off of Latimer’s car for the caution. With four laps to go, Travis Hallyburton led Lapcevich, Goetz, Shepherd, Wylie, Holdaway, Morrow, Latimer, Witty, Thayne Hallyburton and Fumerton.
Travis Hallyburton would get a good final restart and hold Cayden Lapcevich en route to scoring the victory. Nick Goetz finished third, followed by Gord Shepherd, Taylor Holdaway, Jason Witty, Chris Morrow, Ernie Fumerton, Scott Wylie, Darryl St. Onge, Jordan Latimer, Thayne Hallyburton, Dwayne Baker, Brittney Gresel, Frank Davey and Ian Bourque.
