The V8 Supercars Championship heads to Melbourne this weekend for the first round of the PIRTEK Enduro Cup at the Wilson Security Sandown 500.
Now in its 46th year, the Wilson Security Sandown 500 is an endurance classic with the V8 Supercars stars and their co-drivers battling it out as the championship heads towards the climax of the season.
Highlights of the weekend include:
Red Bull Racing Australia’s Craig Lowndes looking to equal the mark of the legendary Allan Moffat with his sixth Sandown 500 victory
The comeback of 51-year-old Russell Ingall who will partner Jack Perkins in the #22 Holden Racing Team Commodore.
The 100th V8 Supercars Championship race start for 22-year-old rising star and Wilson Security GRM Volvo driver Scott McLaughlin
The on-track action begins on Friday with three 30-minute V8 Supercars practice sessions, kicking off at 10.10am.
Saturday will see two unique qualifying races, with co-drivers taking the wheel for a 20 lap shootout before the main drivers jump in to bring it home for a place on Sunday’s grid.
Sunday will see the 500km classic, with the green flag dropping at 1:25pm for 161 laps that are sure to be action packed from start to finish.
There’s also plenty of entertainment off the track including Showtime FMX motocross displays, Red Bull stunt plane demonstrations, driver autograph sessions, and the family favourite Disney Zone.
Fans can also bring their own gas BBQ, grab a ‘Park and View’ pass to park their car trackside and enjoy the race with friends and family.
The Wilson Security Sandown 500 in Melbourne runs from Friday September 11 to Sunday September 13. All kids 12 and under are free with a ticketed adult. Tickets can be purchased at ticketek.com.au.
