Riding with Ryan
American Diabetes Association Youth Ambassador Eli Hopkins of West Point, Va. will ‘Ride with Ryan’ this weekend. The 14-year-old high school freshman will have his name featured above the passenger-side window of Reed’s No. 16 Ford Mustang for the second time this year. Hopkins is a leader in the Richmond diabetes community, sharing his story at the American Diabetes Association’s Garden Party Diamond Gala and the American Diabetes Association’s Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes®.
Like Reed, Hopkins is a racer and knows that staying active is important to managing his diabetes. He is a two-time ATV National Champion and now competes in dirt bike racing. Since last being featured on the car in April, Hopkins has joined the Richmond Kickers travel soccer team as well as his high school’s soccer team.

Reed on Richmond
“Richmond is one of my favorite places to go to and probably the track I feel most comfortable at since I have five starts there. In my opinion it’s the last true short track we go to – we use so much brake and forward drive is really important. We’ve struggled the last few times we have been there with new tire combinations but I know (crew chief) Chad (Norris) and the team will get it figured out and we will have a fast car this weekend.”
Tune-in
Reed and the rest of the NASCAR XFINITY Series will take the green flag from RIR on Friday, September 11th at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Network and MRN.
