After months and months of planning and a lot of hard work by a passionate team of volunteers under the guidance of Roma’s Peter Basmadjian, the Ian Boettcher Race Parts (IBRP) Carina Speedway situated just on the outskirts of Bundaberg in QLD is set to roar back into life with a massive 2 night opening this weekend.
Carina Speedway which has been closed down for the past 9 years has been rejuvenated and refreshed, and this picturesque facility is now going to bring much pleasure for drivers, crews, and fans alike as Speedway gets a massive injection back into the district. The 460m track also has a Junior Quarter Midget circuit on the middle and will be running every division available including the almighty 410 Sprintcars.
No stone has been left unturned in the reopening, with a new catch fence, increased pit area with new lighting, shower block for competitors, amazing state of the art racing lights system, new canteens and bars, terraced spectator mounds, corporate facilities, kids area with rides, Big screen and much more. The facility has the ability to hold some of the best Speedway shows in the country, and this is all on the back of some passion and determination from Basmadjian who has got this all going.
“It was a dream of mine to see the sport return to the Bundaberg area, so I sacrificed nearly everything I have and sold all my race cars to come and make this dream a reality. It’s been such an emotional and physical challenge to get this ready to go, but I wouldn’t change it for a thing, I am so excited to finally press the green lights tonight and let everyone enjoy this wonderful sport in the area. Without the support of all the volunteers and valued sponsors from the local community and most of all my family this could never have happened” said Basmadjian
“With well over 100 cars entered for the big 2 night opening this weekend, we hope to kick off in style and make sure everyone that attends can’t wait to come back. I still have some exciting plans and upgrades to still carry out to make sure this venue has the infrastructure to be a powerful commodity in the Australian Speedway landscape for a long time” he continued
Throughout the entire process Speedway Australia has been in constant communication with track staff, and made sure that the venue standards met the national requirements for Speedway and provided the opportunity for Carina Speedway to hold major national events in the future. This culminated in Speedway Australia Operations Manager Shane Collins visiting the track in readiness for the opening night of the big 2 night IBRP Carina Speedway Launch this weekend.
“I have been in consultation with Peter Basmadjian from IBRP Carina Speedway since the day he suggested he wanted to do this, and he has been very proactive and supportive of the requirements needed to make this happen. Now actually personally seeing the venue it’s a credit to him and all those amazing helpers that they have this ready to go. Well done to them all and I’m sure they will make this a success and Speedway Australia are proud to be involved in supporting and helping the team at IBRP Carina Speedway” said Collins
