Riding with Ryan
American Diabetes Association Illinois Youth Ambassador Evey Evans will ride along with Ryan Reed this weekend. The Bourbonnais, Ill. native will have her name featured on a decal above the passenger-side door on the No. 16 Ford Mustang. Evans was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2010 at the age of eight. Now 13, Evans shares her story with others living with diabetes at American Diabetes Association camps and other events and programs such as the 2015 American Diabetes Association Chicago EXPO®. In an effort to continue to increase diabetes awareness and education, Lilly Diabetes is supporting Reed and the American Diabetes Association’s Drive to Stop Diabetes, a national diabetes awareness initiative. As part of the campaign, which aims to increase diabetes awareness and education, Reed visits diabetes treatment centers while traveling for races. Reed was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2011 and was told he would never race again.
Richmond Recap
Reed finished 13th at Richmond International Raceway on Friday night after starting 14th. The team started with a loose-handling Ford Mustang and made the necessary adjustments to put Reed in position for a top-15 finish at the track where he made his NASCAR XFINITY Series debut in 2013.
2015 Season
Reed is currently tenth in the NASCAR XFINITY Series championship standings after one win and 13 top-15 finishes.
Reed on Chicagoland
“It’s always comforting to return to a track you have a win at, no matter what series it was in. We had a good run in this race in June and winning in the ARCA event was definitely a confidence boost. Chad (Norris), the team and I have really been communicating well and I think that will lead to a great finish at Chicago this weekend.”
Tune-in
Reed and the rest of the NASCAR XFINITY Series will take the green flag from Chicagoland Speedway on Saturday, September 19 at 6 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Network and MRN.
