Championship Season Underway
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
• The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will return to action after an idle month on Saturday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. The F.W. Webb 100 will be the 600th race in Whelen Modified Tour history, and will launch the three-race stretch to conclude the 2015 season and crown a champion. Ryan Preece heads to the “Magic Mile” with a one-point lead on Woody Pitkat.
A LOOK BACK
• The first Home Tracks champion of 2015 was determined last Saturday as Scott Steckly captured his fourth NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 crown with a runner-up finish in the Pinty’s 250 at Kawartha Speedway in Fraserville, Ontario. Steckly became just the second active touring series driver to reach four championships. Jason Hathaway won the Pinty’s 250 and finished just four points behind Steckly in the season standings.
• Andy Seuss took an important step toward retaining his NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour title when he won the South Boston 150 Saturday night at South Boston (Virginia) Speedway. Seuss now has a 10-point lead on brothers Burt and Jason Myers, who are tied for second, with two races left on the schedule.
• Lee Pulliam won the first of two late model features Saturday at South Boston, and finished third in the other, to further cement his bid for a third NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national championship. Pulliam finished the 2015 points season with a career-high 29 victories. The final national championship points will be released Wednesday for Division I and Thursday for Divisions II through V.
