Following a successful rookie Signs of Innovation Mighty Mini season, Cameron McGlashan will be making his Super Stock debut as part of the Velocity 250 Presented by McColl Racing Enterprises this weekend at Sunset Speedway.
McGlashan will be driving for Mike Brown, who recently acquired a car from Zardo Racing that Lane Zardo drove to a track championship in 2011.
“It’s unreal to say the least,” McGlashan commented. “I’m laying in bed Wednesday night half asleep when my phone goes off and it’s Mike Brown wanting to know if I want to race a thunder car this weekend! I thought he was joking at first. It’s an amazing opportunity in one of the province’s top cars and I plan to take full advantage of it.”
Entering the weekend with no practice laps under his belt, McGlashan says that he is keeping his expectations simple, wanting “to get as many as laps as possible” while keeping the car in one piece, and having as much fun as possible.
“If we could make the main event and finish all the laps that would be a success in my eyes cause I have zero practice laps in these cars,” he added.
This past season went really successful for McGlashan as he finished second in Mighty Mini points with three feature victories and 13 feature top-10s behind the wheel of the No. 83 England Enterprises, ORVauto, Taylor Drywalling & Taping, Express Yourself Décor Mustang.
“I think we had a great year in the mini,” he commented. “We blew my season goals out of the water by picking up a couple feature wins. If not for engine problems on the double header weekend, we might of had a different ending championship night.”
McGlashan plans on racing both the super stock and the mini stock as part of the Velocity 250 weekend, which he says will “be interesting to say the least”, noting that instead of doing 40-50 laps as he is used to; there will be 53 laps on the mini stock and 70 laps on the super stock by the end of the weekend, at least.
“My main focus is the thunder car this weekend,” he stated. “If the mini is too distracting well put it on the trailer.”
